You have written with great empathy and compassion. Thank you.
Very few people can examine the selfishness of wanting someone else to live when their lives are unbearable. Even those emotions - the unbearability of living - are rejected and dismissed by those closest to the suicidal. "Of course it's bearable - you're looking at it wrong." In other words, "you're the problem".
What better way to encourage suicidality than to tell the person the problem is the suicidal individual. For sure the easiest way to end the suffering is to end one's own life.
But to be there for someone who is suicidal - sometimes for years - is a task few can take on, even if that is what is needed to save a life.
